Historical Memory and Cultural Identity in Omon Matjon's Poetry: A Linguopoetic Analysis

Historical memory occupies an important place in modern literary studies because it reflects the ways in which societies preserve and reinterpret their cultural past. In Uzbek poetry, historical memory is often expressed through references to historical figures, cultural symbols, place names, and literary images that carry collective meanings. This article examines the representation of historical memory and cultural identity in the poetry of Omon Matjon from a linguopoetic perspective. The study is based on selected poems containing references to historical personalities, cultural places, and culturally significant images.
The research applies descriptive, contextual, and linguopoetic methods to identify the linguistic means through which historical memory is represented in poetic discourse. The analysis shows that historical names and cultural symbols in Omon Matjon’s poetry perform functions that go beyond simple nomination. They evoke cultural associations, preserve collective experiences, and contribute to the formation of national identity. Historical figures such as Bobur, Jaloliddin Manguberdi, and Shayx Kubro, as well as cultural symbols connected with Afrosiyob, Xorazm, and Amudaryo, play a significant role in shaping the semantic structure of the poems.
The findings indicate that Omon Matjon’s poetry serves not only as an artistic reflection of the past but also as a means of preserving cultural memory and transmitting national values. Through linguopoetic devices, the poet creates a meaningful connection between history, culture, and contemporary national consciousness.
